3/25/06 Wet Day Over the Water Pit

It was a blast on the hill Saturday - the turnout was at least twice as many as last year for the 2nd annual water pit crossing day. Many people struggled today to cross the pit - mainly snowboarders, but a few skiers attempted it. Lots of cold water rescues by Ryan Oakler (wearing waders - wimp) - and he was reluctant to help his brother Brent. Jim Solvay's son won the sailboat (he is about 11 years old) - looks like Jim has a new used boat to store in his yard for a few years. The weather started to be a bit overcast and windy, but it turned out to be a great day - 40 degrees and sunny.

3/12/06 Sunny Sunday after an iffy Saturday

Sunday made up for what could have been an overall bad weekend weather-wise. Sunday was perfect spring skiing conditions - hard in the am and soft warm and sunny in the afternoon. The deck was full of sunbathers and dogs. The snow is holding up great too - plus the added snow predicted tonight and tomorrow will help. The 3-Leg Race that the Resort is putting on was moved to next Saturday - along with the 5 person hose race. It should be fun. The Water pit is scheduled for March 25th - and those that were there last year know how fun that was - this year they are making it 2 X's as long. Plan to get wet.

The ski club Friday Night party was fun - Rich M. turned 40 years old Again (apparently he has had this same 40th birthday party for a couple of years now - not really sure of his age). Cake was distributed to everyone there to wash down the beer. Bruce L. also turned 40 on Sunday - I think his is a real 40... Good thing the rest of us are all in our 20's........... The left over app's were recooked on Sunday for those that were around.

2/27/06 Great Skiing Conditions

For those that could not make it out to the hill over the weekend - you missed perhaps the best skiing the hill has seen in many years. The 7" of light powder groomed down to a Utah-ish type of snow conditions. Amazing. The 2007 demo skis at the shop were a big hit - they have most of the skis for another week - so don't forget to test some out.

2/23/06 Wednesday Night Race League

Starting next week (March 1st), the race league will move to Wednesdays. The racing will continue until people stop showing up. Also, we had a first this week - Trish McCole won the womens' division - it was the first week for the womens' division - and she was the only one that showed up. Remember - everyone is welcome to race.

2/18/06 Ski Jump Weekend

To start - the Thursday night race league was cancelled due to poor weather. Wind, cold and snow forced the cancellation. Jump weekend was bitter cold too, but at least the jumps took place. The lodge appeared busy - everyone was so cold watching the jumps that they hung out in the lodge and drank there. Everything seemed to go pretty smooth on that front.

On another good note - the ski shop returned with 22 pair of 2007 model year demo skis for everyone to try out (9 of which are lady skis). They will have the skis for a few weeks - stop in the shop and try out a pair for free.

2/12/06 Week in Review

The Thursday night race league was printed in the paper on Saturday - so other than noting that is was another fun night, there is nothing more to say. At least the hill got some free newspaper advertising out of the deal. It has been a great time on Thursday nights - Sitzmark also has a guitarest playing and there is a pretty good crowd around the resort - not just kids either.

The deck party was very crowded too - which is a good thing. The weather on Saturday was perfect for a deck party. Dave was cooking the food as fast as he could - and the food was being eaten as fast as he could make it. He needs to go back to work and rest for a few days after that. Photos of the day will be on the website soon.

This week the troops head to Minnesota to test all of next years ski equipment. They plan to bring back about 20 pairs of next years skis so everyone can try them out. 2 out of the 3 stooges are representing us there - so this should be intersting.

2/5/06 Ski Week Recap - Lots happened.

Thursday night race league was a fun night again. Dick's 'super slalom' course took its toll on a few people (and I think they will take revenge on him eventually). Race results for each night are now posted on this site. Saturday was a busy day - the was a snowboard competition on Dispy Doodle that attracted a ton of kids. A new snowboard company that will be carried in the Shop sponsored the event (Tech Nine). They gave free stuff away - and that is all kids want, so they were happy. Also on Saturday there was Nastar handicapping. A pacesetter from Madison was here and set a 'Super G' course - might even qualify as a downhill. The wind was directly uphill blowing chair seats up, so it was not fun.

One note: Unfortunately no cameras were available to witness the spectacle that happened on Saturday - The Three Stooges (Phil, Mike F. and Rich M.) made quite a scene in front of the lodge. According to Phil, Mike caused the multiple crashes by doing a face plant by the ski shop. This apparently caused Phil to forget where he was and managed to ski on the sidewalk and release from both skis.

1/29/06 Ski Club Pizza Party

Wow - what a crowd in the Sitzmark Saturday night for the pizza party. It is hard to believe it is Pine Mountain - the same place that did not even open the Sitzmark for night skiing 1 year ago. It does not take a genius to see that the atmosphere at the hill has changed so much for the better. Even more astounding is the number of skiers at the hill Saturday night. The party was tons of fun and don't worry if you missed it because the deck party is approaching fast. Photos of the evening will be posted soon.

1/26/06 Thursday night Race league starts

Thursday night was the 1st night of official Nastar style racing. The format has changed from a team event to an individual event and the cost was reduced to $0.00. Over 20 racers took their turns at the timed event. Results were not made available at press time but will be added as soon as possible. This league will continue through February.

1/17/06 Dynastar Demo Day Success

The Sunday Dynastar Demo day at Pine was one of the biggest ski demo days Scott (Dynastar Rep) has ever had. The snow conditions were perfect for trying out the Dynastar lines - 2" of new powder over freshly groomed runs. It gave people an opportunity to ski the 'big mountain' fatties - Legend 8800's among other skis.

1/15/06 Thursday Night Race League practice Begins

The first night of the Nastar style racing practice started Thursday, January 12th. The temperature was perfect for night skiing and the course held up extremely well considering how warm it was. The next free practice night will be Thursday, January 19th. Make sure you make plans to come out and ski, watch or sit in the Sitzmark and have a few drinks.
